  The Left Behind series

If you are not yet familiar with the books or movies, check out the Left Behind website and pick up a copy of the books as soon as you can!  You don't know what you're missing!  There are twelve books in the "main" series written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins; a fictionalized account of what Earth's last days will be like following the Rapture of the Church.  In future weeks, I will post more detailed explanations of all these things along with my personal beliefs about them.

The 12 books were written between 1995 and 2003 in this order:

Left Behind
Tribulation Force
Nicolae
Soul Harvest
Apollyon
Assassins
The Indwelling
The Mark
Desecration
The Remnant
Armageddon
Glorious Appearing

I will post a ranking and review of each of the books sometime in the future.  All 12 books made the New York Times bestseller list, 3 of them spent at least one week at #1 ("The Indwelling," "Desecration," and "Armageddon"), and one of them ("Desecration") became the top selling work of fiction in its year (2001).  Clearly, this series has significant popularity and significance.

Starting in 2000, three movies have now been made from the series.  The first two bear the titles of the books they are based upon.  The third, "Left Behind: World at War" is based on the last 50 pages of the second book, "Tribulation Force".  As is true with many book-to-movie series, the movies simply aren't as good as the books on which they're based, despite the fact that they are very good movies.  There is also a clear difference in motion picture quality, and thus a ranking is in order.  Click here to read my ranked review of each movie.
